Frequently Asked Questions

Does Vita Coco need to be refrigerated? How long does Vita Coco last?

Tetra Pak allows our coconut water to be shelf stable for up to 12 months outside of the fridge. For best taste, after you open a Vita Coco, place it in a refrigerator and consume within 24-48 hours—nobody likes sour coconuts.

When should I drink Vita Coco?

Our coconut water is good anytime and anywhere! But for starters, we find that most people like coconut water: on the go; before, during, or after exercise; as a mixer; after a night out; in smoothies; and with meals!

How much Vita Coco should I drink?

Your consumption of our coconut water should be based on personal lifestyle, diet activity level, and always with moderation in mind!

Is it safe to drink Vita Coco while pregnant?

Yes! Pregnant women can drink our coconut water, because it’s flash pasteurized (learn more about flash pasteurization in the OUR PRODUCTS section). If you have an allergy or health condition, check with a physician before consuming Vita Coco just to be safe!

What is coconut water?

Coconut water is the clear, fat-free liquid that’s inside a young coconut when you crack it open! It’s naturally rich in electrolytes, especially potassium. It’s low in calories, cholesterol-free, and tastes great!

Is Vita Coco coconut water gluten-free?

Does coconut water have electrolytes?

Vita Coco contains naturally occurring electrolytes like potassium—more hydration, less funny business!

How many calories are in Vita Coco coconut water?

Not much! Our original coconut water contains 18kcal per 100ml and Coconut Water with Pineapple contains 25kcal per 100ml.

Is Vita Coco kosher?

Yup—kosher and K-star certified.

Are Vita Coco beverages pasteurized?

Yes! After coconuts are harvested, washed, and cracked open, the liquid inside is flash-pasteurized and then packaged in a Tetra Pak. Flash pasteurization helps preserve the best natural flavor and nutrients, kill potentially harmful bacteria, and make Vita Coco coconut water shelf-stable for up to 12 months.

How do you read the best-by date?

Not the way you think—the best-by date, found at the top of every Tetra Pak, is dated 12 months from the production date, and is read as such: day/month/year.

What is Tetra Pak?

Tetra Pak is a BPA-free, eco- and socially-responsible form of packaging made from wood fiber, a sustainable resource. Tetra Pak keeps our coconut water fresh and gives it a shelf life of up to 12 months. For more information, visit www.tetrapak.com.

Does Vita Coco add sugar to its coconut water?

Yes, a little bit—hear us out! Here’s why: coconuts can vary in taste, so we add less than 1% natural fruit sugar to our non-flavored coconut water. That helps to standardize the taste and sweetness levels regardless of harvest, time of year, or country of origin.

What does “never from concentrate” mean?

Some other brands use coconut water from concentrate—meaning, reconstituted with water and additives before packaging—but, never Vita Coco. We’re committed to using only the freshest coconut water possible, giving us the right to say we’re never from concentrate!

What can I do with a coconut shell?

A LOT. Looking for a new bikini top? Coconut shells. Need a very small hardhat? Coconut shells. Broken maracas? Coconut shells again. See? The possibilities are endless.

Is a coconut a nut?

Nope! Despite the name, coconuts are fibrous, one-seeded fruits called drupes. Other members of team drupe include peaches, nectarines, cherries, and dates.

How long does it take to grow a coconut palm tree?

So, here’s the thing: you can have a fully-grown palm tree in as soon as three years (yay!)--but, it won’t start to yield coconuts until somewhere around it’s sixth birthday (aww!). In fact, it can take as long as 15 years for a palm tree to really get going on coconut growth! And if you’re planning on growing one indoors, make sure you have a skylight, because these guys can grow up to 98 feet tall.
